  • Ideal task - measured by 4-16 hours deliverable workload per person considering analysis, design work, build, test and deploy.

  • Idle task - work left in work flow for a prolonged period, constitutes a queue item.

  • Impediment - constraints preventing team members from completing work.

  • Implementable story - ready to build Product Backlog Item (PBI), meeting INVEST.

  • Implementable PI Objective - management reviewed, adjusted PI Objective meeting SMART - Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-bound criteria.  

  • Incremental, Iterative development - build large product from high quality small products to enable effective adaptation to users' feedback.

  • Incremental funding - fund large products by committing funds to small products with high confidence threshold.

  • Influence - ability to drive emotional involvement of members on a common cause, without coercion or legislation.

  • Information radiator - visible display providing self-explanatory sufficient detail for specific understanding.

  • In Process item - PBI under development or implementation.

  • Innovation - processing new ideas, method or product.

  • Innovation accounting - metric measuring rate of progress through fast learning.

  • Innovation and Planning - generating new product ideas, high business value and ordering in priority.

  • Inspect (ion) - stepping aside to see how things work, considering product, tools or process. (see Adapt).

  • Inspect and Adapt - a Scrum phrase connoting process policies to drive Product and Agile Practice inspection and adaptation to change, paraphrased in SAFe rewrite prescription for Program Execution retrospective.

  • Integration -  merging, combining, copying to product line, codebase increment with test to validate functionality as a coherent whole.

  • INVEST - acronym requiring Independent, Negotiable, Valuable, Estimable, Sizeable, and Testable stories.

  • Inventory - PBI in backlog, To do, WIP and Done, mostly unshipped business value with accrued storage cost.

  • Internal stakeholders - organizational persons contributing exclusively to product development outside the Scrum Team, such as Managers, Executives, Directors and internal customer proxies.

  • Issues - known concerns that must be resolved prior to a backlog item being assigned to a packet or a problem being solved by a change to a packet.

  • Iteration - product development cycle characterized by repeatable sequence of work. Recommended for use on batch processing.
